Slide Cells are used to block other cells, but only on one axis. They can be rotated, however, changing said axis. This makes them the only cell within the base game that does not update while also having a different effect based off of rotation.
Key Attributes
- Able to stop cells, but only on two sides
- Rotation-dependent
- Non-updating

In general, contraptions, the slide cell is often used to block movers or generators temporarily, and generally plays a role in keeping the contraption from failing. Slide cells can and often are used in moving machines, as they can prevent motion opposite to the axis the machine moves on. Their property of blocking motion only on one axis also lets them slow down contraptions, blocking the contraption from moving on every other tick for example. Longboats are a great example of this, as well as keys with slide cells instead of push cells.
For puzzles, slide cells usually can be used as obstacles or as a way of making something take longer. Slide cells as obstacles are often used as a difficult challenge where you have to get to a different side of them to move something.
In vaults, slides are the main component of can-openable vaults, usually. Early vaults were often nearly all slide cells. In modern challenge vaults, they will form the majority of gates, as they are able to be opened at will. They can also be used as general obstacles within the vault, making it ever so slightly more difficult by requiring a rotation. They are rarely ever used to solve vaults.
